CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) -- - Police used a stun gun to subdue a man before he appeared in
court on charges that he and his girlfriend killed a toddler whose
body was encased in concrete and dumped in a swampy area of
northwestern Indiana.
A Lake County magistrate entered not guilty pleas Monday for
23-year-old Timothy Tkachik and 18-year-old Engelica Castillo. They
are jailed without bond on murder charges in the death of
2-year-old Jada Justice of Portage.
Lake County Sheriff's Department spokesman Mike Higgins says
Tkachik was shocked after he climbed onto a table in a holding cell
and refused to get down.
Jada was the subject of a 10-day search after Castillo said
she disappeared from a car while the baby-sitting teenager went
into a Gary convenience store.
