Angola man arrested by U.S. Marshals on felony child molestation charges

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) U.S. Marshals have arrested a man from Angola on class A felony molesting charges.

Joseph Dwight McDowell, 30, formerly of Angola, was arrested by Marshals in El Dorado Arkansas on a Steuben County arrest warrant.

The warrant ws issued in November 2012 following an investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department but McDowell fled the county.

Detictives reached out to the US Marshals Service Northern District of Indiana’s Sex Offender Investigations Coordinator Bill Boothe for help with the fugitive investigation.

With efforts from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office, Angola Police Department, and the US Marshals Service Northern District of Indiana, Western District of Michigan, and Western District of Arkansas, McDowell was found and arrested on Tuesday around 3 p.m. without incident. 

As of Tuesday evening, McDowell was being held in Arkansas at the Union County Jail. He is awaiting extradition back to Steuben County. 

Also assisting in the arrest of McDowell were the El Dorado Police Department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office also like thanks any who provided tips and information that led to the arrest of McDowell.
