ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) - An Angola man who is accused of murder has chosen to defend himself in Steuben Superior Court.
Zao Burrell, who faces a murder charge along with additional counts, was warned to let a trained attorney take his case. He refused.
“It’s very unwise for me to proceed without one but I am choosing to do it, sir,” Burrell said to Judge William Fee.
Police said Burrell shot and killed Brent Donbroski over a meth deal on June 3. A manhunt for Burrell ensued the shooting.
As of Monday, Burrell is being held without bail in the Steuben County Jail.
His trial will be held on November 14-16.
