KENTLAND, Ind. (WLFI) - According to a news release from the Kentland Police Department, a 66-year-old man is accused of stabbing an 8 year old multiple times.

Tuesday afternoon just before 4 p.m., police, firefighters and medics were called to a home on N. 6th Street in Kentland on a report that a juvenile male had been stabbed. When they arrived, police confronted a 66-year-old man identified as Thomas Esmond.

In the news release, police said Esmond told officers to shoot him. He then got physical with officers and had to be subdued with a stun gun. Esmond was first taken to the Jasper County Hospital. He was treated and released into the custody of Kentland police. Esmond was booked into the Newton County Jail on charges of attempted murder and resisting law enforcement. He is being held without bond.

The injured child was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital. At last check, police said the 8-year-old boy was stable.
