FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Using a witness description, Fort Wayne police arrested two people in an attempted bank robbery Friday morning. During the arrest, a two-year-old child was found in the get-away car, which added one count of neglect of a dependent to the suspect's charges.
Around 9:50 a.m., the police department was called out to the Freedom Financial Federal Credit Union on Inwood Drive to a report of a possible bank robbery. The police said a man entered the bank and demanded money from the bank teller. But according to police, a customer "spun on the suspect and struck him with his elbow, knocking him to the ground." That apparently scared the suspect, so he ran outside, empty handed.
The customer ran after the suspect to a vehicle in a nearby neighborhood where the suspect got away. When police got to the scene, that witness gave them a suspect description, vehicle description, and possible license plate number.
Molly Hutmacher, 23 and Michael Boester, 34, both of Fort Wayne, were then taken into custody to the Allen County Jail on robbery charges.
During the course of the arrest, police found the couple had a two-year-old inside the get-away vehicle. That child has since been released to family.
Hutmacher was also charged with neglect of a dependent.
