INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indianapolis Colts' appearance in Sunday's Super Bowl has restaurants around the state stocking up and police cautioning fans and party hosts to take it easy on alcohol.
Bar owners say the Super Bowl is the equivalent to retailers' Black Friday shopping the day after Thanksgiving. But police say daylong parties can lead to excessive alcohol consumption and urge hosts and fans to use caution.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said nearly two-thirds of the state's fatal crashes on Super Bowl weekend last year involved a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Indiana State Police spokesman Ron Galaviz said hosts can face criminal charges if guests are arrested after leaving a party. He urges everyone to have taxi numbers on hand.
