NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A mother was in jail and her child was in a hospital Monday afternoon after police said she left the child in a hot car.

Police officials said the temperature in the car was 110 degrees when they were investigating. They found an 11-month-old in a rear passenger seat with a window slightly rolled down.

The car with the child inside was parked outside a Bed Bath and Beyond at Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville. The mother told police she was shopping at the time.

Medics took the baby to St. Vincent Medical Center Northeast, but it was unclear what condition the child was in.

Officers arrested the child's mother, 31-year-old Poojah Harshit Thakkar, on a preliminary charge of child neglect. She was being held at the Hamilton County Jail on Monday.

This summer, one child died and another was critically injured in separate incidents in which police say their parents left them in hot cars.
