ITT Exelis gives layoff notices to more than 200

ITT Exelis , one of three recently formed companies of what was once ITT, has given layoff notices to more than 200 employees at its facility on West Cook Road in Fort Wayne.

The layoffs will take effect at the end of November according to company spokesperson Tim White. Ninety of the people being let go were recently called back to help fill a surge in production that has since ended.

The layoffs were necessary due to a drop in production of the company's Sincgar radios and cuts in defense spending.

According to White, company leaders are aggressively working to transition to different products to produce.

In a news release dated November 15, 2011 on the ITT Exelis web site, the company is currently demonstrating several of its communications solutions in the U.S. Army’s Network Integration Exercise (NIE) 12.1 at White Sands Missile Range, N.M.
