Gas drops below $3.00 at several Fort Wayne stations

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has dropped below $3.00 a gallon at several Fort Wayne stations.  That's something motorists haven't seen for quite a while.

At the Stop N Shop in the 6000 block of Hessen Cassel gas hit the $2.98, while a Shell station located at McKinnie and Hessen Cassel was selling gas for $2.99.

NewsChannel 15's Gas Gauge shows at least five gas stations in the area that have gas below $3.00 a gallon.

It's unclear whether this is a price war because all of the stations are near one another, or if it's related to an overall drop in the price of gas in the region.

On Monday, a spokesperson with gasbuddy.com said he expected gas prices to continue to fall.

"The national average has continued to see a steady decline over the last week, and that trend will likely continue through this week at the very least," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Last week, the Energy Information Administration reported one of the largest single week increases in gasoline inventories in my recent memory, which will likely contribute downward pressure to wholesale gasoline prices in the days and perhaps weeks ahead," DeHaan said.
