ELKHART, Ind. (AP) -- - A recreational vehicle company based in northern Indiana plans
to hire more than 400 workers as it increases production.
Heartland Recreational Vehicles of Elkhart
announced Tuesday it would immediately begin hiring about 200
production workers. The company said it expected 200 more jobs
would be added by the end of March, bringing its work force to
1,200 employees.
Heartland says orders for its towable recreational vehicles
have increased since Oct. 1.
Heartland President Brian Brady says it's expecting a big
production year in 2010.
Other RV companies in the Elkhart area have also recently
announced hiring plans. Thousands of layoffs in the RV industry
since early last year in Elkhart County pushed its unemployment
rate to 18.8 percent in March.
