FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The space once occupied by Marshall Field's at the Glenbrook Square mall will finally get new life when a Carson's department store opens there in 2013. Marshall Field's, formerly Hudson's, was one of four department stores at the shopping center when it closed in the summer of 2005.
Glenbrook Square and Carson's made the announcement about the new store Wednesday morning. Remodeling of the 122,000 square foot space is expected to begin in February of 2013 with a grand opening set to take place in late fall.
Carson's is a regional chain owned by Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. with 273 locations situated as far east as New Hampshire and as far west as Montana operating under a variety of names that include Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers.
Glenbrook Square Mall officials said they're excited to have Carson's join their group of retailers.
"To see this finally come together everyone's effort within the company to come together and all of the hard work, it is just an awesome feeling. We're all just floating in cloud 9 today," mall spokesperson Chris Ford said.
