Indiana braces for more layoffs

600 workers may be laid off in October

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Eight companies across Indiana have notified the state this month that more than 600 workers face possible layoffs.

The Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday the notices to the Indiana Department of Workplace Development add up to one of the worst months this year for potential job layoffs in Indiana.

Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana warns 176 employees could lose jobs if the sale of the company isn't completed by the end of the year. Kansas-based MGP Ingredients has announced plans to buy the 164-year-old Lawrenceburg distillery, one of the world's largest alcoholic beverage distilleries.

Graphic Packaging International in LaPorte has warned 128 workers might lose jobs. Ford Motor Co. says it will lay off 91 in Indianapolis.

International Bedding Corp. of New Haven warns it may close by Dec. 22, idling 73.
