INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An 18-year-old boy died  Monday after falling from a fifth floor balcony near the IUPUI campus.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a complaint of loud music at an apartment in the 900 block of West 10th Street around 3 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they were informed by frantic teens that a person had fallen from the balcony and landed on the sidewalk below.

Officers found the boy laying face down on the sidewalk and called 911. He was transported to Wishard Hospital in critical condition.

He died later that morning from his injuries.

Witnesses told police the boy got nervous when police were at the door and tried to escape the apartment by swinging from the fifth floor balcony to the fourth floor balcony. He lost his grip and fell.

Police investigated the party and found multiple underage people had been drinking heavily. Only one person was on legal drinking age at the apartment. Benjamen Trester was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

All people in the apartment are expected to appear in court but were released on the scene.
