WATERLOO, Ind. (AP) -- Residents in a small northeastern Indiana town where a police officer was shot are planning a benefit for him.
Organizers tell The News-Sentinel that the benefit for Waterloo Deputy Marshal Stephen Brady will be held February 4th. State police Sgt. Ron Galaviz says Brady remains hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the face on December 15th while responding to a call about a couple with car trouble.
About three hours after the shooting, police found a couple hiding behind a nearby house. Police say 41-year-old Ralph Hardiek pointed a gun at officers and was shot and killed. Thirty-three-year-old Julie King was seriously wounded.
Organizers are encouraging cash donations to a fund set up for Brady at Farmer's State Bank in Waterloo.
