FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - David Johnson received 40 years behind bars in exchange for pleading guilty to a voluntary manslaughter charge in the shooting death of Brandon Portee in Fort Wayne earlier this year.
On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, Portee was shot after a disturbance inside a house on the southwest corner of Richardsville and Avondale. Police said a man involved in the disturbance, later identified as Johnson, came outside with a gun and shot Portee.
After the shooting, Johnson left in a white car possibly to Gary, Indiana and was considered armed and dangerous.
The vehicle that Johnson used when he fled the scene was found by Fort Wayne Police Department Officers Thursday evening. Johnson's car, a 4-door white Lexus, was found in Fort Wayne and was unoccupied.
Hours later, early Friday morning, Johnson, turned himself in to the Fort Wayne Police Department. Around 2:30 a.m., Johnson walked into the Police Operations Center at 1320 E. Creighton Avenue and was taken into custody.
He was taken to the Allen County Jail on a charge of Murder.
