Rain forces air show flights to end early

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -Rain forced officials to end the flying part of the Fort Wayne Air Show two hours early on Saturday.

Flying ended at 2 p.m. after the F-22 Raptor show. The static displays would have remained open until 5 p.m. even with the rain, but a mass exodus of people caused show organizers to stop allowing more people onto the 122nd Fighter Wing base.

While they didn't have to leave, Capt. Rebecca Metzger said thousands of people started to leave the show once the flying was canceled. That caused traffic to get backed up as people were trying to leave.

The air show will open again as scheduled at 9 a.m. Sunday. The flying show will start at noon and go until 4 p.m. Metzger hopes the weather will cooperate more on Sunday and that no flights will be canceled.
