MARION, Ind. (WANE) - A trial started Monday for a Marion murder stretching back more than three decades.
Alfred Lee Solomon is on trial for allegedly killing Terry Headley back in 1979.
Police arrested Solomon last February in Kentucky. The 67-year-old has been behind bars in Indiana and awaiting trial ever since.
Court documents claim Solomon shot Headley twice, slit his throat, and then hog-tied him with robbery listed as the apparent motive.
In an exclusive interview last year, Headley's family told NewsChannel 15 they were relieved to finally feel closure some 30 years later.
"I couldn't believe it," said Mary Headley, victim's mother. "I mean, it's still like a dream that's come true."
"Justice doesn't have a date that expires," said Chief David Gilbert, Marion Police Dept. "It needs to be done and we're looking forward to moving on with the case."
The Grant Co. prosecutor said an accumulation of evidence over the years contributed to the arrest, but he couldn't say more.
The jury is being selected Monday, with the hearing beginning in the coming days.
