Six safe after escaping house fire Saturday

Firefighters arrived within three minutes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Six people safely escaped a house fire early Saturday morning. Fire broke out around 12:45 a.m. at the Avondale Drive home.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was on the scene within three minutes. According to firefighters, heavy smoke was coming from the living room and kitchen of the one-story home when they arrived. Firefighters battled the fire from inside and were able to get the blaze under control in 16 minutes.

Firefighters said there was a working smoke alarm and that no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
