DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A DeKalb Co. officer broke his finger while arresting Adam Beery Monday night.

DeKalb Co. officers Rick Short and Auburn Officer Tim Moord arrived at 970 Griswald Estates in Auburn to serve Beery an arrest warrant.

The officers knocked on the door and asked the people inside the apartment to come to the door.  When they did not come to the door, Officer Short called DeKalb County Officer Aaron Long to the scene.

A short time later a tenant arrived at the apartment.  Officers explained why they were there and that they had heard Berry’s voice inside the apartment. The tenant entered the apartment, but did not let the officers in.

The door to the apartment was left ajar.  When a dog inside the building came to the door, it opened wider and officers saw Beery inside the apartment.

Officer Long then entered the apartment and attempted to arrest Beery.  The suspect  physically resisted being handcuffed and Officer Short had to assist.

During the struggle, Officer Short heard a pop in his index finger.  Short was transporter to DeKalb Memorial Hospital for treatment where it was confirmed that his index finger was broken.

Beery was taken to DeKalb County Jail on a warrant for criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.  Beery was later released after posting a 1,000 dollar bond.

Officer reports will be forwarded to the DeKalb County Prosecutors Office for review and possible additional charges to be added to Beery’s case.
