Bluffton man dies in Whitley Co. crash

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - John Ryan, 25, of Bluffton died Sunday after he crashed his car into a pole on a county road in Whitley County.
Around 3:10 p.m. Whitley County police got a call that there was a crash on CR 300S near the intersection with CR 600 E. The caller said the car was on fire.
The fire department put the car fire out. Ryan was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Ryan was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry going east on CR 300 E when he went off the road and hit a high voltage utility pole.
The 2008 Camry is included in Toyota's floor mat recall and certain 2008 Camrys are included in the sticking accelerator pedal recall.
Whitley County Deputy Tony Helfrich said speed was a factor, but he said he doesn't know if the crash is related to Toyota's recall issues. He added it might be hard to tell during the investigation because of the extent of the damage.
It's not clear if Ryan was wearing a seat belt or what caused him to go off the road.
