Arrest made; victim ID'd in AM murder

Victim and suspect had on-going feud

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police have arrested a suspect and the Allen County Coroner has identified the victim in a deadly shooting that took place early Thursday morning in the 5200 block of Stonehedge Boulevard in the Canterbury Green apartment complex.

Matthew Pufahl, 25, has been taken into custody and is being charged with Wade A. Reader's murder.  Detectives with the Fort Wayne Police Department caught up with Pufahl at the office of a local attorney. 

The shooting took place near the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Stonehedge Boulevard just after 3 a.m.

Police believe Pufahl was involved in an an on-going feud with Reader, over the past week and that led to a verbal fight at a local bar.

Pufahl and Reader, were asked to leave the bar and they apparently then agreed to meet at a parking lot near the 5200 block of Stonehedge Boulevard.  Police said that is were the shooting occurred according to several witnesses.

Police found Reader, 23, on a nearby sidewalk.  He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later died of a gunshot wound.

Based on information gathered from witnesses, police were able to nail down Pufahl as a suspect.

The Coroner said Reader's death is the eighth homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County for 2010.
