INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana health officials said more than 160,000 children across
the state are overdue for a second dose of the swine flu vaccine.
The Indiana State Department of Health sas in its weekly
swine flu report that more than half of the nearly 300,000 Indiana
children ages 6 months to 9 years who received one dose of the
vaccine at least a month ago have not received a second dose.
The second dose is recommended to fully protect children
against the swine flu.
The agency's medical director, Dr. Joan Duwve, said the first
vaccine primes the immune system in young children but it's not
adequate to protect all of them.
