122nd Ind. Air National Guard base may be able to keep A-10 fighter jets

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - There's still a chance the 122nd Air Base in Fort Wayne could keep its A-10 fighter jets. Last week, a top Colonel announced the Air Force would be removing them.

Major General R. Umbarger says it just makes sense. On Average every dollar an active duty Air Force base spends, Fort Wayne's base only spends 28 cents to house the fighter jets. Major General Umbarger says the 122nd has always been available and ready to be called to duty. The unit just received an outstanding unit award for this. Only two were handed out in the state. Mayor Henry and the Chamber of Commerce hope folks in the community will speak out against having the A-10s removed.
