Police tell our sister station in Indianapolis, WISH-TV, that a Fairmount man who was caught waist-deep in a grain auger has died.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near the Grant County town of Converse around 3:15 Thursday afternoon.

The body of David Shock, 58, was recovered and taken to the hospital where his family is gathering.

Investigators said the man somehow became entangled in the equipment after he was crawling over it.

Police said he was alive when emergency crews arrived on the scene. They said he was even talking. However, crews could not get the man out of the auger in time and he died.

A grain auger is a motorized machine that is often used to move grain from trucks and carts into grain storage bins.

IOSHA has been called to the scene to investigate.
