The idea of bringing passenger rail service back to Fort Wayne is picking up steam. Hundreds showed up at the public meeting at the Baker Street Station in downtown Fort Wayne.

The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association is pushing to bring Amtrak back to Fort Wayne. It would link a station with major cities like Chicago and Cleveland.

The group hopes to get some of the eight-billion dollars set aside for rail in President Obama's stimulus plan. They believe the service will fill a niche in the area, and could be used by thousands of people every year.

Right now, the closest Amtrak Station is in Waterloo, about 25-miles north of Fort Wayne.
