Pink Ribbon Bagel helps fight against breast cancer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Proceeds from Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagel will go to a local organization that helps fund breast cancer research.

Every time you buy a Pink Ribbon Bagel in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you’ll help fight the disease.

Fort Wayne’s two Panera Bread Bakery-Cafes will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of Pink Ribbon Bagels on Friday, Oct. 7, to the Vera Bradley Foundation.

The bakery-cafes are located at 526 East Coliseum Boulevard and 4110 West Jefferson Boulevard.

Throughout the month, Panera will donate 10 cents for every Pink Ribbon Bagel sold.

New this year is the Power of Pink Baker’s Dozen, which includes 13 Pink Ribbon Bagels. Panera will donate $1 for every Baker’s Dozen sold in October.

“The Pink Ribbon Bagel is a customer favorite, in part because it’s a delicious way to start the day and because each bagel sold helps bring us one step closer to finding a cure for breast cancer,” said Kevin Sieber, manager of the Fort Wayne Panera Bread at Jefferson Point. “Panera Bread is proud to work with the communities we serve to help raise money for such a worthy cause.”

Shaped in the form of the iconic pink ribbon, Pink Ribbon Bagels feature cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar. Nearly 2 million Pink Ribbon Bagels were sold in 2010, raising more than $75,000 for charity nationwide.
