FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Parkview Health Community Nursing will be offering nearly 1,000 free doses of the flu mist vaccine to children who qualify.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the flu is spreading at an alarming rate. As many as 41 states have seen widespread illness and ten people in Indiana have died .
Nationwide since October 1, 2012, there have been 18 influenza-associated pediatric deaths and more than 2,000 influenza-associated hospitalizations reported.
The free flu mist vaccine will be offered to eligible children who are on Hoosier Healthwise or have no health insurance or insurance that does not pay for vaccines. Children must also be healthy with no chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizures or heart conditions.
Parkview Health Community Nursing officials will be offering the free flu mist vaccines on two occasions through Monday, Jan. 14.
