FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Officials at Lutheran Hospital are helping out the community this summer by holding a month-long blood drive.
Blood supplies typically drop during the summer months, which is often the time when patients need blood the most.
Lutheran kicked off the month-long blood drive on Wednesday morning. Lutheran Hospital's CEO, Brian Bauer, started the effort by rolling up his sleeves and donating.
The American Red Cross donor center at Lutheran usually gets about 230 units of blood donated in August. Organizers of this campaign hope to substantially increase those numbers this year.
You can schedule an appointment online at RedCrossBlood.org/make-donation or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767). You can also make an appointment at any collection center.
