Free prostate cancer screenings at Parkview Field

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Parkview and the Fort Wayne TinCaps are offering free prostate cancer screenings, as well as additional health screenings, on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screens will be in the Lincoln Financial Group Event Center at Parkview field.

The screening is for men 40 and older. The blood test detects potential problems in the prostate gland by measuring the PSA in the blood. This blood test can provide early detection and can improve the chances of surviving prostate cancer. The results are confidential and will be sent to the man test and his physician.

Prostate cancer is treatable and curable if detected early, before the cancer spreads outside the prostate gland.

Additional screenings include blood sugar, blood pressure, osteoporosis, height, weight, and BMI. There will also be education opportunities on urology, sleep apnea, stroke, and cancer.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21 men with tickets to the TinCaps game can be tested from 6:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m.

On Wednesday Aug. 22, the screenings are open to the public from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

There will also be demos of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System which is a less invasive surgical technology that offers smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery for prostate patients.

Surgeons from Parkview Physicians Group will be on hand to perform demonstrations, and the public is invited to test their skills by performing mock procedures with the da Vinci robot.
