FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Participants of the Fort Wayne's Smallest Winner contest were scheduled to compete in a a half marathon to end the program on Saturday but the heat wave drove organizers to cancel the event.
Contestants signed up for the competition in April. 27 people vowed to go through the health makeover challenge.
Rick Walters, Founder of the Smallest Winner and Dr. B.P. House, Director of Emergency Services at Lutheran Hospital, spoke with NewsChannel 15's Heather Herron about the cancelation and how important it is to stay safe during a heat wave.
Angola Motorsport Speedway also canceled the race scheduled for Saturday due to the extreme heat and dry conditions. The race has been rescheduled for Saturday July 14.
