Tons of festivals this weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Festival season hits full tilt this weekend with several events around the area.

Turtle Days: June 20 - 23

Turtle Days also got underway Wednesday in Churubusco. The 63rd Annual events honors the hunt for "Oscar" that began in 1949.

The events website says the four-day festival will include contests, vendors, concessions, music, games, rides, and fireworks.

A 5K run/walk will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. Tractor pulls begin at 8:30 a.m. and turtle races start at noon.

The festival concludes Saturday night at 10:15 p.m. with fireworks.

Heritage Days: June 20 - 24

Wednesday, Heritage Days in Huntington kicked off. This year's theme, "Unlocking the Canal," will center a theme around the Wabash and Erie Canals, a major transportation route through the area in the mid-1800's, according to events website .

The festival runs through Sunday with various events, including the annual parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. Several activities downtown include a Market Place, children's activities, and a car and tractor show.

Hot Air Balloons will also launch at Huntington North High School on Saturday.

Hoagland Days: June 21 - 23

Hoagland Days will run Thursday through Sunday celebrating the town's 140th Anniversary. Food, rides, and music return for the popular southeast Allen County festival.

Saturday at 11 a.m. is the annual parade along Hoagland Road.

Greek Festival: June 21 - 24

The popular Fort Wayne festival, Greek Fest , starts Thursday and runs through the weekend.

The 32nd year of the event will be held at Headwaters Park and feature the 3rd Annual Greek Fest Olympic 5K on Sunday. The festival is FREE except between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Children under 16 are free at all times.

The event also features famous Greek cuisine and food, beverages, and pastries. Live music, dancing, and other activities take place each day.

GearFest: June 22 - 23

Sweetwater will be hosting GearFest '12, part trade-show, part entertainment, event and a celebration of musicians and the instruments and equipment they use to make music. Sweetwater said GearFest will have something for everyone. It is free and open to the public.

More than $65,000 in gear will be given away to GearFest attendees this year. For more information, check out the website.

Avilla Freedom Festival: June 22 - 23

The Avilla Freedom Festival will be held at the Avilla Park. There will be plenty of events for the children and a parade down Main Street at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Check out the full list of events online.

RiverFest: June 23

And the 3rd Annual RiverFest will take place Saturday along the river at IPFW.

The event helps bring attention to the rivers around Fort Wayne and the many resources they provide to the city and its residents.

Popular events returning this year include: boat rides, children's activities, arts and crafts, live music, and fireworks.

Some new events this year include: a beach party, sand volleyball tournament, and races on the river.
