BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (AP) — The annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition is expanding its scope to seek entries from artists in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin as well as its home state.

The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in suburban Detroit on Monday announced that it is seeking entries for the 31st annual event.

Organizers hope the addition of artists from nearby states to those from Michigan will help attract more visitors to the show. The exhibit is scheduled to run from June 28 to Aug. 23. In past years the exhibit's 100 or more works have come from 500 to 600 entries.

Cash prize awards to artists from the juried exhibition will total $10,000. The entry deadline is May 20. Details are posted online.
