FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization has paired "bigs" with "littles" in a mentoring relationships for decades. As a result of a need for more Big Brothers (male mentors), the Sports Buddies program has been developed. It pairs a big brother with a boy who has similar sports interests and makes it easy to spend time at local ball games, play on teams of pick-up sports and more, all while helping build the potential and future of the child. It's a flexible program and the organizations takes on much of the planning, costs and logistics to make mentoring possible.
Other mentoring programs are available for men and women, however due to the high number of boys waiting for a big brother, the organization is focusing on matching 50 new big brothers to be Sports Buddies in the month of August.
