FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - To the surprise and dismay of Anita DeSelm, her nonsmoking daughter was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 20.  Anita watched for a year as treatments of radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, transfusions and more were ultimately ineffective.  When it became evident that Jen wouldn't survive lung cancer, Anita promised her daughter that she would work to help find a cure and better treatments.

She is why the National Lung Cancer Partnership will host the Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk event in Fort Wayne on Sunday, September 16.  It will begin at Headwater's Park.  The event is noncompetitive and also includes a one mile walk, a Tot Trot and silent auction.  All proceeds will benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership for research, education and awareness.

Online registration is available in advance by visiting FreetoBreathe.org .  Or on September 16, participants will be able to register beginning at 1p.m.  For more information about the organization or the event visit the website.
