FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - In a day when national debt problems are big news, personal financial debt could use more scrutiny.  But, according to local financial expert, Joseph Schenkel, it's vital that consumers who seek out help use caution before signing a contract.  "Make sure you that you have properly evaluated all your financial options and that you are dealing with an accredited Non-Profit agency. There are many options of who can provide help, however, a local organization can better understand your personal situation, as we live and work right here in your community."

Schenkel is the President and CEO of Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) of Northeastern Indiana.  They offer free budget counseling with counselors that have been certified by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).  The private session analyses income, living expenses and debts and discusses spending and debt reduction specific to the needs of the individual or couple.

Other services include Debt Management Programs, Housing Counseling for foreclosure and reverse mortgage, and education such as Personal Finance Workshops.  They are also available to make presentations for professional groups or businesses on current financial topics, money management and consumer credit.  CCCS has four locations in northeast Indiana; Fort Wayne, Auburn, Warsaw and Huntington.  For more information visit FinancialHope.org , or to schedule a free budget counseling session, call 260-432-8200 (800-432-0420).  Schenkel adds, "CCCS wants to be your "Home for Financial Hope."
