WESTON, Mass. (AP) — Biogen Idec says the Food and Drug Administration is now reviewing its application for a new hemophilia treatment. The company's drug rFIXFc is designed to treat hemophilia B, and Biogen said it lasts longer than current drugs. That would allow patients to endure fewer treatments. Weston-based Biogen said the FDA will conduct a 10-month review, which means a decision would be due by early January.
CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) — Communications equipment maker Sycamore Networks says it plans to go ahead with a plan to liquidate the company at the end of the business day on Thursday. Chelmsford-based Sycamore said its board believes that it is "in the best interest of the stockholders" to proceed with the shareholder-approved plan to close the company.
LEXINGTON, Mass. (AP) — Cubist Pharmaceuticals says Michael Tomsicek will replace David McGirr as chief financial officer. Tomsicek has been the company's deputy CFO since July. McGirr is now the senior adviser to CEO Mike Bonney, and he will retire from the company in 2014.
BOSTON (AP) — The cost of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts has dropped by four cents in the past week. AAA Southern New England reports that self-serve, regular is selling for $3.72 per gallon. That's two cents below the national average but still 13 cents higher than a month ago and a penny below the price a year ago.
