BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The president and chief executive officer of a western New York-based health insurer has announced plans to retire.

Alphonso O'Neil-White revealed his intentions on Monday. The 64-year-old has led Buffalo-based HealthNow New York Inc. since 2003.

O'Neil-White didn't specify when he will step down but said the time seems right to retire, given his age and tenure.

A statement from the company says it will conduct a national search for a successor.

HealthNow New York has more than 800,000 members and operates BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, BlueShield of Northeastern New York, Health Now Brokerage Concepts in Pennsylvania and Health Now Administrative Services in the Northeast and California.

The company reported $2.5 billion in revenues in 2012.
