JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney says the hail storm that hit Mississippi could result in 35,000 to 50,000 insurance claims.
Chaney says those numbers are based on information provided by insurers and include automotive and property damage claims.
He declined to give an estimate on the dollar amount, saying the claims could range from a couple hundred dollars for a windshield to much more.
A lot of the damage is in the Jackson metro area, where hail as big as baseballs pounded some spots.
Chaney said there also was a significant amount of damage in Warren County. Other counties also reported damage.
Chaney said a staging area will be set up Thursday at the fairgrounds in Jackson so people can drive up to get estimates on their cars from insurers.
