NewsChannel 15's Matt McCutcheon is a reporter and fill-in anchor, delivering Coverage You Can Count On LIVE in the field weeknights at 5 & 6 pm and anytime on www. wane.com .
It's all a dream come true for Matt, who at the age of five would take the state map of Indiana into his parent's living room and present the weather. While reporting is his passion, he says he knew at that young age that this is what he wanted to do.
In his time at NewsChannel 15, Matt has covered some of the area's biggest stories; from uncovering child molestation allegations at the home of a babysitter, to the breaking news of Matt Kelty's indictment, along with coverage of Mother Nature's various severe weather events. He's also covered every 2008 presidential campaign visit to northeast Indiana; from former President Bill Clinton, to Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton.
Matt is an Indiana native who joined Newschannel 15 in August, 2004, as a news producer. Matt's broadcast roots date all the way back to his junior year of high school. He was active with Connersville High School's student-produced newscast "CHS Today," where he held various positions including reporter, anchor and weathercaster.
Matt graduated from the Pulliam School of Journalism at Franklin College, where he earned a national Pulliam Journalism scholarship. He was heavily involved with the student-produced newscast "Inside Franklin" for all four of his college years, where he served as an anchor, reporter, and producer. Matt was also active with campus radio station WFCI-FM.
Off campus, Matt kept busy in the field of broadcasting, thanks to six internships. During the summers, and during his senior year, Matt interned at a variety of stations, where he got even more hands-on experience. He started at radio station WQLK-FM in Richmond, Ind.;continued with WLKY-TV in Louisville, Ky.; WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio; and rounded out his experiences at WFYI-TV, WTHR-TV, and WISH-TV in Indianapolis.
Matt's interests include architecture and design, psychology, reality TV, traveling, reading, working out, cooking, and exploring the many interesting areas of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
Over the years, Matt has held positions with several community organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill Industries, Indianapolis Public Schools, and the "English as a Second Language" program. He currently mentors students interested in the field of broadcasting. As NewsChannel 15's Digital Television Conversion reporter, he also routinely speaks to groups about the big change coming to all TV sets on February 17, 2009.
Matt is always excited to hear from viewers. "It's the only way we can know what works, and what we can improve."
