64 Indiana counties now under burn bans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) As drought conditions continue to worsen, the fire hazard created by the dry conditions has prompted most of the counties throughout the state of Indiana to issue burn bans.

The Indiana Dept. of Homeland Security has compiled a list of active Fireworks restrictions and bans by county.

The following is a list of all the burn bans throughout the state of Indiana and some in Ohio:

Adams County - No Burn Ban

The Adams County Board of Commissioners lifted the burn ban on July 30. Fire Departments advise that everyone use extreme caution if and when they choose to burn.

Allen County - No Burn Ban

The Allen County burn ban was lifted lifted effective noon on Friday July 27.

Bartholomew County - Burn Ban

The county issued a burn ban as lack of rainfall has dried vegetation to the point it may easily combust and has thus become a fire hazard.

Benton County - No Burn Ban

Benton County have lifted the burn ban.

Blackford County - No Burn Ban

Blackford County lifted the burn ban on Wednesday July 25.

Boone County - Burn Ban

A burn ban has been issued for Boone County

Brown County - Burn Ban

Brown County has issued a burn ban until further notice.

Carroll County - Burn Ban

Carroll County commissioners issued a burn ban until further notice. All open burning is prohibited.

Cass County - No Burn Ban

Cass County Board of Commissioners lifted the burn ban on Tuesday July 24. Commissioners will reinstate that the ban if conditions merit.

Clark County - Burn Ban

Clark County has been placed under a burn ban until further notice.

Clay County - Burn Ban

A Burn Ban Ordinance has been issued for all unincorporated areas of Clay County effective June 28. 

Clinton County - Burn Ban

A ban has been implemented on open burning and related activities, with the exception of certain firework usage permitted under State Statute.

Crawford County - Burn Ban

A Burn Ban has was issued on June 28. It will remain in effect until rescinded by the Commissioners or Crawford County EMA Director. The ban does Burn Ban includes private use of fireworks. Previously scheduled (IDHS permitted) fireworks displays are allowed if monitored by the repective fire departments under which their jurisdiction falls.

Daviess County - Burn Ban

The Daviess County Board of Commissioners has ordered a seven day burn ban from June 19 until June 26 or until conditions warrant the lifting of the burn ban.

Dearborn County - Burn Bans

The Commissioners of Deaborn County issued a countywide burn ban effective until further notice.

Decatur County - Burn Ban

A burn bas has been issued for Decatur county.

DeKalb County - No Burn Ban

Dekalb County temporarily lifted the burn ban for one week on Monday July 23. Commissioners Don Grogg and Randy Deetz said there has been enough rain county-wide to lift the ban.

Delaware County - Burn Ban

A county wide burn ban is in effect until further notice.

Dubois County - Burn ban

A burn ban has been issued for Dubois County.

Elkhart County - No Burn Ban

Elkhart County Commissioners lifted the burn ban on July 30.

Fayette County - Burn Ban

Fayette County issued a Proclamation of Emergency for a Burn Ban on June 28.

Floyd County - Burn Ban

The Floyd County Commissioners have issued a County Wide Burn Ban as of June 26, 2012

Fountain County - Burn Ban

The Fountain County Commissioners issued a county-wide burn ban on June 15.

Franklin County - Burn Ban

The Franklin County Commissioners have issued a County Wide Burn Ban on June 25.

Fulton County - No Burn Ban

The burn ban was lifted on Thursday July 25.

Gibson County - Burn Ban

Burn ban states that there will be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Gibson County, Indiana.

Grant County - Burn Ban

All unincorporated areas of Grant County are under an emergency open burn ban that will stay in effect until June 21 at 8 p.m. The ban prohibits campfires and other recreational fires, unless enclosed in a fire ring with dimensions of 23 inches in diameter X 10 inches high or larger; open burning of any kind except for grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane; the burning of debris; Attended burning WILL be allowed in burn barrels with a ¼” mesh top from dawn to dusk only.

Greene County - Local Burn Ban

The Greene County burn ban has been lifted but the City of Jasonville ban is still in effect.

Hamilton County - Burn Ban

County-wide burn ban in effect until further notice.

Hancock County - Burn Ban

The Hancock County Commissioners issued a County Wide Burn Ban on June 20.

Harrison County - Burn Ban

The Harrison County Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban. The ban will automatically renew each 7 day period, until rescinded by the Harrison County Board of Commissioners, or the Harrison County Emergency Management Director.

Hendricks County - Burn Ban

The Hendricks County Commissioners issued a County Wide Burn Ban on June 26.

Henry County - Burn Ban

Henry County

Commissioners issued a Burn Ban until July 15.

Howard County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Howard County, Indiana.

Huntington County - No Burn Ban

Huntington County Commissioner's lifted the burn ban.

Jackson County - No  Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners lifted the burn ban on July 30.

Jasper County - Burn Ban

Jasper County Commissioners issued a burn ban. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Jasonville - Burn Ban

The city of Jasonville in Greene county issued a burn ban on June 19. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Jay County - No Burn Ban

The Jay County burn ban was lifted on Aug. 2.

Jefferson County - Burn Ban

The Jefferson County Commissioners issued a County Wide Burn Ban on June 25.

Jennings County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Jennings County, Indiana.

Johnson County - Burn Ban

The burn ban will be in effect until rescinded by County Commissioners. It will be reviewed at least every 30 days.

Knox County - Burn Ban

Knox county is under a county-wide burn ban until July 2.

Kosciusko County - No Burn Ban

The Kosciusko County Board of Commissioners  lifted the burn ban on July 31.

LaGrange County - No Burn Ban

LaGrange County lifted the burn ban on Friday July 27. Residents are still urges to use caution when burning. 

Lake County - No Burn Ban

LaPorte County - No Burn Ban

LaPorte County Board of Commissioners lifted the burn ban.

Lawrence County - Burn Ban

The board of commissioners issued a county wide burn ban for Lawrence County on June 19.

Madison County - No Burn Ban

The Madison County Board of Commissioners lifted the burn ban on Aug. 2.

Marion County - Burn Ban

Indianapolis Fire Department Chief Brian Sanford issued a Burn Ban for Marion County effective immediately on June 27. The ban prohibits open burning for all Cities, Towns and Townships in the fire special service district of Marion County. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, any open burning, comfort fires, camp fires, agricultural burning or similar legal fires, except for outdoor grilling or fireworks, although extreme caution should be used in such situations.

Marshall County - No Burn Ban

The Marshall County Board of Commissioners have lifted the burn ban.

Martin County - Burn Ban

Martin County issued a burn ban "for the protection of the lives and property of the people of Martin County, Indiana."

Miami County - No Burn Ban

The burn ban has been lifted but

Monroe County - Burn Ban

Monroe County is under a burn ban as of June 15.

Montgomery County - Burn Ban

The Montgomery County Commissioners issued a burn ban as on June 28. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Morgan County - Burn Ban

Morgan County Commissioners have issued a burn ban for Morgan County, effective June 27.

Newton County - No Burn Ban

Noble County - No Burn Ban

Noble County lifted the burn ban on Wednesday July 25. The majority of the Noble County Fire Chiefs agreed that conditions have improved but extreme caution still be used when engaging in any kind of open burning.

Ohio County - Burn Ban

The Ohio County Commissioners have enacted a burn ban for Ohio County, in effect immediately.

Orange County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Orange County, Indiana.

Owen County - Burn Ban

Owen county issued a burn ban until July 2.

Parke County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Parke County, Indiana.

Payne, Ohio- Burn Ban

The Payne Fire Department enacted an emergency burn ban for the Village of Payne, Benton Township, and Harrison Township on June 18. The ban includes but is not limited to camp or recreational fires, burning of brush, trash, burn barrels, or any other types of open burning. The ban also includes fireworks and will be enforced until enough rain is received to green the vegetation.

Perry County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners of Perry County declared that a state of emergency and invoked an emergency burn ban for the county. it will remain in effect until further notice.

Pike County - Burn Ban

The board of Commissioners declared burn ban following the provisions on June 19. It will remain in effect until July 2 at which time the Board of Commissioners will reevaluate the ban.

Porter County - No Burn Ban

Posey County - Burn Ban

The Posey County Fire Departments have ordered ban of all open burning for Posey County until the weather changes and provides

sufficient rainfall to prohibit the quick and easy spread of fire.

Pulaski County - No Burn Ban

The County Board of Commissioners have lifted the burn ban. 

Putnam County - Burn Ban

The Putnam County Commissioners issued a burn ban that will remain in effect for 7 days; expiring on July 6, 2012.

Rome City - Burn Ban

Rome city issued an emergency burn ban on outdoor burning on Thursday, June 14. The ban includes campfire and fireworks.

Randolph County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners of Randolph County issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Randolph County, Indiana.

Ripley County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners of Ripley County extended the burn ban until August 6, 2012. 

Rush County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Scott County - Burn Ban

Scott County Commissioners issued a burn ban for Scott County effective until further notice.

Shelby County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners in passed a county wide burn ban. It will remain in effect until enough rainfall is received to eliminate the immediate fire danger.

Spencer County - Burn Ban

Spencer County issued a burn ban on June 20 due to the fire hazards presented by the current drought conditions.

Starke County - No Burn Ban

Starke County Board of Commissioner's lifted the burn ban on Aug. 1

Steuben County - No Burn Ban

Steuben County lifted the burn ban on Tuesday July 24. 

St. Joseph County - No Burn Ban

St. Joseph County lifted the burn ban on Wednesday July 26.

Sullivan County - Burn Ban

Sullivan County issued a burn ban on June 15 due to continuing dry weather. It will remain in effect until further notice. Fireworks are included in the ban.

Switzerland County - Burn Ban

Switzerland County Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Tippecanoe County - Burn Ban

The Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners issued a Burn Ban. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Tipton County - Burn Ban

The Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban and request that there be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Tipton County, Indiana. This burn ban is in effect until July 30, 2012.

Union County - Burn Ban

Union County issued a burn ban that states there will be no open burning or discarding of matches, ashes or any burning materials from vehicles within the confines of Union County, Indiana.

Vanderburgh County - Burn Ban

The Vanderburgh burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. The EEPA will notify the public when the Ban has been lifted. This ban does not include cooking fires in charcoal or gas grills. Personal fireworks are included in the ban.

Vermillion County - Burn Ban

Vermillion County Board of Commissioners have issued a county wide burn ban.

Vigo County  - Burn Ban

Vigo County Commissioners have issued a Burn Ban for Vigo County June 15 until Friday, July 6.

Wabash County - No Burn Ban

Wabash County Commissioners have lifted the burn ban.

Warren County -  Burn Ban

The County Commissioners re-issued a county wide burn ban on July 17. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Warrick County - Burn Ban

The County Commissioners issued a county wide burn ban on June 18. It will remain in effect until further notice.

Washington County - Burn Ban

The Washington County Commissioners issued a county wide burn ban effective until further notice.

Wayne County - Burn Ban

The ban on open burning will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall is received to adequately relieve the hazardous conditions. The ban will be reviewed weekly.

Wells County - No Burn Ban

Wells County Commissioners lifted the burn ban on Thursday July 19.

White County - Burn Ban

The White County Board of Commissioners issued a Declaration of Emergency Ban on Open Fires. It is in effect until further notice.

Whitley County - No Burn Ban

Whitley County lifted the burn ban on Wednesday July 25. The Whitley County Fire Chiefs Association recommended the lift to the County Commissioners as the rain as improved conditions. The fire chiefs state the conditions are not ideal for burning as there is much dry vegetation and urge residents to be responsible around any fire they may start.
